Since 2010 our team has taken up positions outside shops, box offices and release events across three areas of Birmingham. Below are eight jobs that show the range of what a booked place-holder actually does on the ground — not a mock-up, but a record of real assignments. Full case notes open in a pop-up window.
A twelve-hour overnight hold ahead of a console restock. Our sitter kept the spot from 9pm to opening, sent hourly photo updates, and handed off to the client twenty minutes before doors opened.
A self-employed tradesman needed a place in the queue for a council permit desk that opens at 9am with limited daily tickets. We arrived at 6:45am and secured position four.
A regular market trader wanted the same corner pitch each Saturday. We now cover the 6am arrival most weekends, keeping the folding chair and cone in place until the trader arrives around 7:30am.
A bakery known for a once-a-year seasonal item sees queues from 5am. We were booked to hold third place for a client who could only arrive at 8am, thirty minutes before the doors opened.
A client working shifts could not queue in person for a documentation window with same-day appointments. Our sitter held the line from 7am and messaged when the client's number was close.
A limited allocation of walk-up tickets went on sale at a local venue box office. Two sitters split a five-hour wait in shifts and passed the spot to the client thirty minutes before sale time.
An independent food shop reopened after refurbishment with a queue-based offer for the first fifty customers. We placed a sitter at 6am to hold a spot inside that group for a repeat client.
A popular rental listing drew a queue before the scheduled viewing. Our sitter arrived ninety minutes early and held second place until the client, running late from work, took over just in time.
Do you keep photos or records of past jobs like these?
Yes. Every job includes time-stamped photo updates sent to the client during the wait, and we keep a short internal note of the location, arrival time and handover time for our own records.
How far in advance do you need to know about a job?
For most releases and office queues, a day or two of notice is enough. We typically reply to a new request within 8 hours, and earlier notice simply gives us more flexibility on which sitter we assign.
Can two people share a longer wait, like the box office example?
Yes, this is common for waits over four hours. We split the time between two of our 19 team members with a clean handover on-site, so the spot is never left unattended.
What happens if the client is delayed at handover?
We hold the position and send a message with an estimated wait window. In cases like the rental viewing above, the sitter stayed in place until the client physically arrived to take over.
Tell us the date, location and time you need someone in line, and we will get back to you within 8 hours.
